Description
Yazd might be the most engineered city in Iran and one of the most complicated in the world; but among all these wonderful structures, qanar (underground water canals) in one of Yazdi peoples' most complex engineering works. Even more interesting is the fact that there was a watermill 22 meters deep under the ground which produced three times more flour than other mills of that time period. This 2000-year-old mill, which was known as Koshno, utilized the longest qanat in Iran, Zarch (85 kilometers long) along with two other qanats to produce 2500 kilograms of flour each day. today its new owner has repaired it and you can see it working up close. The temperature in this mill is 15 digress cooler than outside weather in the summer. Interestingly, there are unknown corridors and rooms at the end of the building that goes on and on mysteriously; no one has ever explored these corridors to the end.
