Description

This building, like many others in Isfahan, was built by Shah Abbas Safavid and completed by Shah Abbas II in 1647; the word “Chehel Sotun” means 40 pillars in Persian and that might be due to the reflection of the 20 pillars of the building in the pool in front of the building, totaling 40; although 40 symbolizes large quantity in Iranian culture. Pillars and the beautiful ceiling, the mirror-work, wall paintings and use of gold in decorations are among the interesting features of this place. Furthermore, there is an old log in the court yard providing a good view for photography; you can also see old clays around the garden.
